Hello & welcome to our brand new blog, home to fortnightly posts about all things sweet, small business, things I love, recipes and so much more. You can expect a post from us every second Friday and if you enjoy reading them please do leave me a comment, I love hearing from you and if you’ve got any questions for me then ask away!
So lets start back at the beginning…..
I opened my first shop, The Sweetie Jar, in April 2016 after a few months of blood, sweat and tears getting the unit ready for opening!! Not long after this the website followed as I wanted to provide the same sweet treats to customers who could not visit our shop in person. In our little corner of the internet you can find everything that you would in our shop….handmade chocolates, sweetie hampers, pick n mix sweets and so much more. In April 2019 came our second shop based in Inveraray, originally called The Chocolate Box, this was later changed to The Sweetie Jar.
To be honest I’ve been a bit rubbish at noting the highs and lows over the past 6 years but what I can say is that it’s been an absolute rollercoaster!! The highs have been fun, and make me absolutely love running my own business, and the lows (hello coronavirus pandemic & cost of living crisis!!) have been a bit pants. But we’re still here and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for The Sweetie Jar.
And of course all this has unfolded with my Littlest Assistant by my side. If you’ve followed along with us for a while you’ll know the Littlest Assistant quite well….my 8 year old daughter Kate. She was just short of 2 years old when I opened the Lochgilphead shop and she’s had to put up with a lot having a mum who owns a business. Lots of weekends spent at the shop, evenings after school helping to pack web orders, not getting much attention while my head is buried in my laptop….although I’d say the volume of sweets consumed has maybe sweetened the deal somewhat!!
Anyway, I don’t want to bore you too much, so I’ll go for now but please do leave me a wee comment below if you’ve visited either of the shops or ordered from The Sweetie Jar online. What is your favourite thing we sell? Or tell me if there’s anything you’d love to see us sell that we don’t currently?
Have a great weekend!
